Why do planes cruise at lower altitudes in recent years?

I can remember pilots announcing higher cruising altitudes when I was a child (40,000 feet) Now I feel like planes barely make it to 35,000 feet.
The reason why planes cruise at lower altitudes in recent years is due to the advancements in technology.

With modern aircraft, pilots are able to fly more efficiently and safely at lower altitudes.

This means that they can save fuel by flying closer to the ground, while still maintaining a safe cruising altitude.

Additionally, with improved navigation systems and air traffic control procedures, it’s easier for pilots to navigate their way through busy airspace without having to climb higher than necessary.

So while you may remember hearing about higher cruising altitudes when you were a child 40 000 feet ago – today’s planes are able take advantage of new technologies which allow them fly more economically and safely at 35 000 feet or less!
